Isle of Arran 3 days 2 night GG-ied Part 1

Isle of Arran is an island which is accessible via ferry service operated by Caledonian at 2 points, one at Brodick and another one at Lochranza.



It is a kidney-shaped like island and you can get around each town by local bus. A daily rambler ticket that allows one to hop on and hop off for just 4.40 pounds. However, do bear in mind that bus runs more infrequent from autumn onwards. We have managed to cover 3/4 of the island, i.e. Brodick --> Whiting Bay --> Kildonan --> Blackwater foot --> Balmichael --> Lochranza





Upon entering the track leading to Glenashdale Falls, we saw some highland cattles feeding themselves with nothing but grass. I think they are female, that is why they have got no horns.



Although it shows only 1/2 mile (0.8km) to Glenashdale, it actually took us quite sometime to get there.




We went through all kinds of paths in the jungle - there were small stream to cross, there were lots of tree with the signboard hiding somewhere unobvious, there were alot of hills that we need to climb before finding the right way out of the jungle.










Luckily the owner of the place we stayed offered us a map a day before, if not we sure could not make it to the Glenashdale Falls.






Half way through the jungle treckking, we found a wooden bridge and we could see the waterfall from far. At least we were assured that we were on the right track.






The weather was nice that morning, it was slightly chilly. we even took off our jackets, scaft and gloves for some pictures.




We continued moving until we reached Iron Age Fort. There was nothing much to see but a few stones.








After another 10 mins walk, we finally arrived at a platform where we could admire the grand Glenashdale Falls.










After that, we continued to move on with the extended route to reach Giant's Graves. We climbed several hundreds steps before reaching the hilltop to the Giant's Graves.

Expectations from Isle of Arran

Isle of Arran - a small and peaceful island, beautiful location with rugged coastline on the west coast, lovely beaches, dramatic mountains & such a varied selection of wildlife.


Alot of wild animals are expected to be seen on the Isle of Arran. I just want to take pictures with some highland cattles and climb Goat Fell to catch some stunning views of the island.


Weather forecast shows that it will be raining tomorrow and the temperature will be around 10-13 degrees. Wind is predicted to be 36 miles per hour. Siao wei! That means the only downside would be the weather...

Oiii why GBP is so low now?

17 month ago when i left malaysia to study in UK, the currency was 1 GBP to almost rm7. That was really high. Uk currency was very powerful that time. But today, one week before i am going back to malaysia, the conversion rate is 1.00 GBP to rm 5.77. Why is GBP freaking weak now ohh? WTF ohhh?




Imagine changing 1.5k GBP to malaysian ringgit with 2 different rates :
a) 1GBP to rm7.00 ; 1.5k GBP = rm 10,500
b) 1GBP to rm5.77 ; 1.5k GBP = rm 8,655


That means, if i have 1.5k GBP and change them into malaysian ringgit right away, i freaking lost RM 1845 !!!!!!! DENG! @_@


On the other hand, i went swimming again this morning. This is confirm the last swimming session before i go back malaysia liao. So, since this is the last class, i used almost all of the time praticing sitting and standing dive by myself! wooohooooo!!! Each and every jump made me feel great! On one occasion, my swimming goggles came off when i dived into the water, water pressure hit my chest, i cant open my eyes in the water, panicked and almost got myself choke. Emma guided me on standing dive and I practiced at least 10 subsequent times by myself! hehe. Sometimes i managed to dive nicely but sometimes something very weird happened. Very hard to explain. Come to think of it, it is actually quite dangerous to dive/dive without guidance. -_-"


I love swimming, perhaps i started to love swimming after i was given chances to learn swimming. I remembered when i first arrived glasgow, i was very keen to swim. The first 2 times were during winter time in february, that time only hs and i went to try out. I was stopped by the staff and warned not to swim near the deep end. Why? BECAUSE I WAS A NOOBIE that time. So i started to go for beginner's class every thursday morning or friday afternoon. Later on, Ed and Sm both joined gym and thus the 4 of us went swimming quite regularly. Before this, i was very upset because i cant swim. You can swim, do you? Today, I am really happy because i can finally swim, plus dive!


Swimming is definitely another big achievement that i have achieved in glasgow besides completing mpharm degrees.

On the progress

Swimming lesson on Thursday was something different. Emma was the instructor again. She was the one guiding me to do breaststroke for the past 2 lessons. Previously, i was learning from Jenma.

This time, Emma did not ask me to practice breaststroke or front crawl. Instead, she asked me an interesting question "do you want to learn diving today?"



The one illustrated above was for competition. I am not into that.


My response was "yeah, alright, i will try."



This one here seems abit dangerous too. Uh uh, nothing like that.


I was not greedy before this. As long as i can float in the water comfortably, i will be very happy. That is what i want initially. Now, i want to swim in breaststroke for at least 10mins, 20mins, 30 mins, 40 mins, just like running on the road. I want to swim in backstroke, staring at the ceiling relaxingly. I want to dive confidently, reappear on the surface of water and swim as fast as i can to reach the opposite side. I am so greedy now. DENG.



This is basically what i did during the entire hour of my last swimming lesson.

Umm, there should be 3 levels for diving. It is like this, level 1 - sitting dive, level 2 - squating dive and level 3 - standing dive. I am still at level 1 and i dived for at least 10 times already. hehehe. My nose was hit by water pressure during the first attempt. Then the subsequent ones hit my chest. It was not easy at all. Hopefully by next thursday (last swimming lesson in glasgow), i can manage to learn standing dive and i will be really glad if i can bring them back to malaysia.

One thing for sure, I have improved. Not only i can swim laps confidently, now, i can DIVE!


Next, confirmation on posting places for my fellow batchmates. Encik Osman confirmed that they will be informed on Monday. How many more times should they put trust on him? Anyway, good luck and update me on your posting place please. I have sent a few emails to Cik zamzarina to book my interview date, but there wasnt any reply yet. I have tried to call her each day during 3pm - 5pm but nobody seems to pick up the phone. What else can i do besides keep trying? -_-"


Spring cleaning? Nope. We did AUTUMN CLEANING here. The main pushing force behind it was due to House Inspection organized by village office. @_@ Today, we spent 7 hours continuosly (skipping both breakfast and lunch, though i cannot tahan and kept loading some biscuits into my stomach while cleaning, the other 4 gals gila one, no need to eat anything one -_-") to clean the whole unit, excluding personal rooms. This reminds me of H3 housemates and i working on our house inspection. So good luck G5 for house inspection tomorrow!




Last but not least, Lou poh keeps telling me that she wants to see him. She said this fellow is so so so cute that she must find a chance to see him. So we will get there to see him/them really soon.

You need to fight to survive, in order to fight, you will need to be physical and mentally fit, as the saying goes "Only the fittest survive".
It is possible to earn more than rm 1k in one day.
To live peacefully with housemates - be automatic, be nice and volunteer to do housechores, dont always wait for the others.
The toughest part for Mpharm was during the 3 weeks final exam in May.

First of all, thank you to uncle lim and cyberfish for guiding me in filling the spa online 8i forms the other day. It took me a long time to choose between ijazah/ijazah muda dalam bidang professional blah blah blah.


Anyway, i then sent an email to cik zamzarina to book my interview date. I wrote the entire email in Bahasa Melayu. That was not a problem. It took me a very long to wrote the email like this :



My BM really damn cacat already man. This is going to be a problem later on during my interview!

Speed is the solution

"The gym will be open for free until this Sunday"

That was the reason which draws almost everyone to exercise recently. The gym was very packed. The swimming pool was crowded too. I have to queue for my turn to swim the other day. Speed is the solution.


I seriously love swimming. I feel very happy because i have achieved something from each swimming session. For instance, i am finally able to swim confidently in breast stroke for laps after mt last training yesterday. This is what we called 'from zero to something'.


Today, although it was heavily pouring, but i still dragged my sah poh to go to the gym with me.


So we did the 5km run again. My time was 26 mins (as compared to 27mins 30secs on Tuesday) and my sah poh clocked 30 mins (vs 31 mins on Tuesday). WOW. She is an insane runner man. Seriously, that was a good time for 5km. Tell her she is good. I seriously need to train alot more to hit my target - 20 mins for 5km. Yeap again, speed is solution.


Internet speed here is insane, especially during the night time, up to 1.40mb/sec. Im starting to worry about internet speed in Malaysia although i am still in glasgow now. I asked my bro to try download single part of a movie using rapidshare - he told me the speed read merely 30kb/sec. (maybe because my house uses a router?)Oh god. -_-" Definitely, speed is the solution.

Free entrance to Gym and swimming pool

Woooow, Free entrance to Gym and Swimming pool till 13 October - that was really a good news!! :)


My membership has expired. Another problem is with my student card, it has expired as well. But so far none of the gym staffs realised - means i can continue exercising for free.


Three purposes for doing exercise - to abort my 16-month-old tummy (16 months represents the duration of having it, not the size lol), to prepare myself for upcoming Genting Trailblazer (wei 14km run in Awana jungle, gg lorh) and to teman my loupoh (or rather she teman me to exercise?:P), for as long as my body can bear it (at least sampai the free entrance period over).

Oh man, my performance has dropped. Tummy is getting bigger and rounder. -_-"


I used to complete a 5km run on road within 22 mins but today i finished it on a treadmill with a time of 27mins 30 secs. The girl running beside me who started the run at the same time with me was only 400m behind me after 13 mins of running! That was really unbelieveable. I was shocked because she managed to follow my pace for almost 13 mins! I memang know dy wan - Should have forced her to run more during imu cup 2006.

Many think that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino would produce a good film. I have very high expectation for the movie too. Well, for me, Righteous Kill is definitely a no no movie, horrible, enough said. I would give a 3/10 for overall rating.

The Colossuem's interior was divided into 3 parts - the Arena, Cavea and Podium.






The Arena had a wooden floor covered in sand to prevent the combatants from slipping and to soak up the blood. The Cavea was for spectator seating, where as Podium was reserved for emperors, senators and VIPs.










The Colossuem is in a ruined condition to date, which is believed that the damage was done by earthquakes and stone-robbers.

Due to the ruined state of the interior, it is impractical to use the Colosseum to host large events; only a few hundred spectators can be accommodated in temporary seating. However, much larger concerts have been held just outside, using the Colosseum as a backdrop.

The interior design of the restaurant is very beautiful. Be sure to make advance booking if you are going in a group.




The first time we went there was 2 months ago. We ordered Tom Yam with chicken, Thai green curry and Stir Fried beef with oyster sauce.




The TomYam was good. Stir Fried beef was alright, more or less like the chinese style food. But the Green Curry SUCKS man!!! Tooooooo much of coconut milk.




Then we went there for the second time.




This time, we had 2 bowls of steamed fragant rice with Deep Fried Sea Bass and TomYam soup.

What is travelling to you?

To me, travelling is both fun and tiring. Before the trip, there will be some 'homeworks' to do before you get to your holiday places. Lots of booking to make. And lots of facts and tips to read. During the trip, people tend to try their very best to enjoy themselves, spend alot to see and eat, and so do i. However, the presence of snatch thieves will always be one concern. After the trip, you will feel very much relieved of all the efforts that you have put in. Or rather, SATISFACTION is the word to use. However, you might not 'like' to walk around in glasgow anymore.

I will treasure every single moment i had during all the past trips.


What was i doing lately?

I am a 24hrs-service-typed-husband here in glasgow. No more working in glasgow. (which means $$$ going down everyday sobs) Anyhow, i am still waiting (already 6 weeks) for the small amount of $$ from claiming tax (i was told that we can only claim the INCM tax while NI tax is not claimable). Enjoy DAGEI very much while lou poh go for classes. Downloaded lots of MOVIESssss using rapidshare. Watch SERIESsss when lou poh back from classes. Absolutely LOVE swimming. ALthough my gym membership has expired, i will still go for beginner class each thursday, trying to learn as much as possible here.


How was the weather these days?

Hey people, although still sunny day today, it was damn freaking cold when i walked to the cal lab this morning. So i checked the weather forecast page. And to my surprise, it was 6 degrees at 10am lerh! @_@ Autumn began last monday, the average temperature these days is 8 - 12 degrees.




Oh NO! This time 'lai yeh' dy...

Then i bumped into a v.o. staff when entering my loupoh's unit. I hesitated and walked towards the letter box, checked and came back to the unit. DENG. I was questioned "are you staying in this unit?" I said "No, i am staying here temporarily." Then she asked "How long have you been staying here." So i answered "I was travelling around and just got here 2 nights ago, i will be leaving for trip again this weekend! -_-"

One day trip to Manchester

Last sunday, loupoh and i went to manchester for a day trip. Tadeang - CHAR SIEW PAOS...

Yes, the main reason to travel to Manchester city was to EAT. Manchester is famous with chinese food, especially DIM SUM!

Guys, if you are travelling there, TRY Tai Wu, famous chinese restaurant at Oxford Street (thank you yieng). When we reached there at 2pm, we have to wait for 45 mins for our turn. And when we came back at 2.45pm, the queue was still as long as before. Can you imagine that?

We had superb dim sums there, with reasonable price! It serves variety of dim sums priced from 1.40 - 2.20 pounds.


Next, we visited the Urbis, an art gallery. DISAPPOINTING. But i like the glass building very much.

From there, we could actually see the famous Old Trafford Stadium, with big MANCHESTER UNITED wording on it. However, we do not have any time to visit the stadium.

As for dinner, we headed to China Town. I preferred China Town in London, more happening and more choices.








Anyway, dinner at Ting Wu was very, very, very filling.


Our final destination after dinner was to visit the Manchester Eye + Urbis when they were fully lighted.











We stayed up from 11pm till 5am in the morning in Manchester Picadilly train station to board the earliest train back to Glasgow.

P/S : Wear extra extra EXTRA clothes if you are planning to stay up in the train station. We were almost frozen to death! @_@

In terms of card games, i still like poker the most. It is the most exciting game of all. I used to play texas holdem with my housemates, sometimes up to 6 or 7 of us. Each of us will be given some chips and the last man standing with chips will be winner.
